Netflix keeps releasing amazing shows. The streaming giant is responsible for staples like Daredevil, Stranger Things, and Orange is the New Black. Now, Netflix has another new and exciting series on the way — an adaptation based on famous novel and video game series, “The Witcher”.

“The Witcher” is a fantasy franchise by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. It’s comprised of eight books and three video games that detail “witchers” — magical hunters with supernatural abilities who defeat dangerous monsters.

The main character, Geralt, is a witcher who undergoes several mutations and experiments. The tests cause his superhuman strength, his high intellect, and his pale skin and white hair. Geralt forges a bond with a girl, Ciri, who he cares for after unfortunate circumstances. Ciri eventually becomes a daughter to Geralt.

Both the games and books achieved worldwide success. While the books are New York Times bestsellers, the games won E3 video game awards. Critics praised The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for its immersive open-world setting, interesting dialogue, solid character development, and sense of adventure. The Witcher 3 is the most popular installment yet. It follows Geralt and his quest to find Ciri, his daughter, from the “Wild Hunt” – supernatural beings who want her powers.

“The Witcher” creator, and series creative consultant, Andrzej Sapkowski told Platigue “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.” Sapkowski will assist Netflix and Platigue Image SA in their adaption. His involvement will help keep the authenticity of the series.

People are tweeting about the series in excitement:

Netflix continues dishing out great series and it sounds like the series based on Sapkowski’s “The Witcher” will be no different. Netflix hasn’t released an official release date, but expect to stay updated on the upcoming original.

What do you think? With HBO’s incredible fantasy series, Game of Thrones, nearing the home stretch of its run on TV, could Netflix’s The Witcher be the next epic TV show that takes over the world?
