The new Netflix original true crime serial Making a Murder debuted on 12/18/2015 and it is already making headlines for how game changing it is. Unlike the salacious one hour true crime shows often seen on channels like Investigation Discovery, this series is a hard hitting true crime story. The story is told over 10 episodes allowing for the deepest details possible to be told about the case.
Making a Murderer follows the story of Steven Avery, a poor man in a small town who spends 18 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Once DNA exonerates Avery, he decides to sue the police department in his town for gross misconduct. It is then, all of a sudden, that Avery is then arrested and charged with a brutal kidnapping, assault and murder. From here things only get worse. Is it possible that after 18 years in prison Avery is capable of doing something like this or do the police have vendetta against him they will never let go of? During his second criminal case unfortunately, a young man with a low I.Q.also gets entangled with the murder.
What’s remarkable about this Netflix original is that there is never a dull moment in the 10 part series. Every scene and every detail is vital to the series and the case. This serial documentary is as compelling (if not more) than your average criminal drama. The first episode of the series can be previewed on Youtube and the rest of the series is a Netflix exclusive.
If you’re a true crime fan, you will easily devour this show in a weekend. It’s one true crime show you will never forget.
