Red Oaks is a funny, coming-of-age dramady that’s currently streaming on Amazon prime. Although there is nothing particularly different about this show, the characters are wildly entertaining and strangely relate-able. The shows plot line is based on showing the difference between the rich older members of the club and young struggling servers. The young people working there observe the lap of luxury they could be enjoying or the dismal alternative they could face their entire lives.

Although there are many corky characters in the series, the main character is David, an NYU student who comes to the Read Oaks Country Club to teach tennis to the snobby rich members. Although David is in college, his craves to be a director. The pressure for him to remain on the fast track to success is heightened because he is dating a local nursing student who dreams of a perfect suburban life for the two of them.

However, this summer, might change his life forever. Over the summer, David develops an uncomfortable relationship with the club’s president and his artsy daughter. Both people have him rethinking his plans in life.

The show includes a stellar cast including Jennifer Grey as David’s mother and Paul Reiser as the club’s president. There are many side characters that are fun to meet, but the heart of the story is strongest when it focuses on David and his walk through life.

One of the shinning parts of the show is that it doesn’t clobber you over the head with the fact that it takes place in the 80s. Fashions and phrases are not over done. Yes, the story takes place in the 80s, but the show is not about the 80s..

Since this show is currently only 10 episodes long, it’s perfect to binge watch over the weekend if your craving to hold on to the days of summer a little longer.

This show sounds pretty interesting. I love coming of age shows, I’m a sucker for them. Not to trilled that it takes place in the 80’s but if it’s overly down like this post says then it might just be okay.
