If you like the quirky and often times extremely awkward show Girls, then you will like the LGBT comedy/drama Please Like Me. The show is about a young man who is dumped by his girlfriend and feels like it’s the end of the world, at first. However, he soon discovers that it wasn’t the worst news in the world because he’s actually gay! He soon decides the best thing for him to do is to move in with his mother who recently tried to commit suicide. After moving in with his mother and helping her to heal he then goes on to live with his friend Tom.
Josh’s life is completely in chaos by the time he moves in with Tom which is not good considering Josh hates anything emotional or dramatic. So, Josh decides to power through these tough times in his own self-centered way of handling things.
This show is definitely not for everyone. Like the HBO series Girls, Please Like Me has a main character that can be fun loving one moment and unbearably annoying the next. The series mostly appeals to the modern 20-something generation who is pretty much stumbling through life in order to figure it out. The dialogue is smart, snappy and sharp, with performances that are genuine. If you’re looking for a more modern version of friends with a twist, then this show is for you!
Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Netflix if you’d like to check out this new age drama.
