If you were thinking of switching your cable provider to AT&T soon, you may want to wait just a bit longer in order to take advantage of a fantastic deal they will have coming up. According to a leaked document viewed by Variety, AT&T will give away free Apple TVs or free Amazon Fire TV Sticks if you sign up for their upcoming $35 a month streaming service entitled DirecTV now.
The new service, which provides 100 channels for just $35 a month, will challenge many of their rival’s high prices. Wall Street expected the service to cost at least $50 a month, which makes the lower cost an even bigger surprise.
AT&T says they’re able to cut down on their price by cutting out equipment like satellite dishes. Instead, they will stream channels over the Internet. This will eliminate the need for cable boxes completely. AT&T recognizes that not everyone has a streaming device. The way they will rectify this is to give out a free Apple TV if you sign up for 3 months of the $35 a month plan. An Apple TV is $150 while a 3 month plan is only $105, so you will be saving money with this plan. If you don’t want to commit to a 3 month deal, you will still get an Amazon Fire TV Stick, whose retail price is $40.
The only iffy thing about this service is there is no available list of the 100 channels included. However, HBO, Discovery, NBCUniversal, Turner, Viacom, Disney, AMC, Scripps, Starz, and more have signed up for the deal so there are some heavy-hitters taking part in this new program. Streaming is the way of the future. The more competition there is for the consumer’s business, the better! Lower prices for everyone!
